So every since Chris and I have been married, I've wanted a dog. I think it mainly had to do with the fact that I didn't grow up with a dog and I've always wanted my children to grow up with dogs (given that none of them will be allergic). Anyways, so only recently has Chris and I diligently researched the type of dog that we would be willing to adopt. We've both agreed that the dog needs to be small (since we live in an apartment), not a yapper, and something that isn't too active (the truth of the matter is that we are kind of lazy lol). So the dog must meet those 3 characteristics alone with being kid-friendly.
Yesterday I went to the Henrico Sheriff's Animal Control and I met this sweetest little poodle dog. The dogs at the animal control are identified by numbers instead of names, which is a little sad. I showed Chris the dog...
Chris: Um...the dog is ugly
LaTeeka: Wow, Are you serious? You want a dog based on the fact if it's cute or not
Chris: Well I want a dog that is nice to look at and won't scare me
...so based on that conversation, another characterisctic, the dog must be CUTE.
So Christian and I are going to meet at this shelter called Richmond SPCA and meet two little dogs: Bam Bam and Pebbles.
They are pug/terrier mix. Christian wants a pug so badly because he thinks they are so cute and he loves that they aren't very active and they are loyal. Personally, I think the dogs are funny looking but unlike my husband, I could care less about what the dog looks like. I just want to give my love away.
So I've been reading a lot about dog training and I'm very excited to train our dog how to sit, stand, heel, crate-train, housetrain, and so forth. I'm excited for the new addition to our family that will soon occur. But if only we can agree on a dog that we like...so I'll update you on how our evening unfolds!
11/3/12 *UPDATE* We met Bam Bam and we decided not to adopt him. He was very timid and he pooped in front of us. Chris was shocked that so much came out of such a small dog. I also think something may be wrong with Bam Bam bc he was housed separately from the the other dogs. As far as Pebbles, she was on hold for adoption so we didn't meet her.
